Looking Back, Looking Ahead

Hello Everyone  !!!

Just sitting here thinking about how far I've came from the beginning  of my TIE300 course until now. In the beginning of the course I was extremely nervous starting off and didn't think I would do to well because I wasn't technology literate. I honestly never really been into social media and didn't have to many experiences with technology . This class has taught me how to use social media sights such as Twitter  which I found very useful because it allowed me to come up on different resources for teachers through educational pages. It also allowed me to network with different teachers and build my pln. This class has made me feel more comfortable with presenting to an audience. I presented my first prezi presentation in this class https://prezi.com/odcjo_jmh70g/ezzard-charles-daycare/. Prezi was one of my favorite tools I learned how to use and will continue to use for my future presentations. Another, one of my favorite tools I will continue to use is Smore. Smore is a great website to use to create newsletters , or creative flyers. Here is one the first back to school flyers I created using the website www.smore.com  https://www.smore.com/jzc9u-teddy-bear-s-corner but will definitely not be the last. I'm going to continue to use this website and recommend all future teachers to use this create free website and yes I did say free. I honestly expected this course to be more harder than it was but it wasn't because   my teacher broke things down in a way where I understood things and if I didn't understand it she had always had great examples to show exactly what she wanted to be done. She was also very patient, helpful, and positive. She always seemed to be very understanding and came right over with a very positive attitude when I seemed to miss steps on my assignments . I  now feel more prepared because I have the necessary tools to help me become a great  21st century teacher.

Media Literacy

Todays Topic: Media Literacy
https://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=media+literacy+pictures&fr=befhp&imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fedtech2.boisestate.edu%2Ftinabale%2Fimages%2FMedia_literacy.jpg#id=0&iurl=http%3A%2F%2Fedtech2.boisestate.edu%2Ftinabale%2Fimages%2FMedia_literacy.jpg&action=click

Hello Everyone !!!

I'm back with a different topic for this weeks discussion . Last week in class we discussed Media Literacy in class. The first thing I talked about when my teacher introduced Media Literacy to us was Its our own understanding of how the media such as television  is being portrayed to us. Even after that thought came about I still looked up  media  Literacy before she presented the prezi presentation.  This is what I found when I did so
Media literacy is the ability to “read” television and mass media. Media literacy education teaches people to ACCESS, ANALYZE, EVALUATE, and PRODUCE media. Many studies suggest that such education can produce less vulnerable children and adolescents. National PTA’s, Teachers’ professional organizations, substance abuse prevention programs and the President have all endorsed media literacy. Children who understand the motivations and production techniques of media are less likely to adopt the destructive attitudes and behaviors that are depicted in the media. Media education represents a new and exciting approach to protecting children and adolescents from the unhealthy effects of media-an approach which is not dependent on Hollywood’s or Madison Avenue’s willingness to accept responsibility for its programming and advertising.

Based off the prezi presentation presented I learned whether I was media Literate of not  which I am honestly not but working on getting there.  Based off the prezi I learned Media Literacy is our interaction with media and the message we take from. I also learned Media Literacy for teachers could be gender issues, stereotypes, or misrepresentations . Media Literacy for students could be basic concepts, and persuasions. Here's the prezi  utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copyto https://prezi.com/jljy8hokvy4f/media-literacy/?help you better get your own understanding of what Media Literacy Means to you.

Personal Learning Network

Topic for Today : Personal Learning Network

A personal Learning network is a professional development using online tools such as twitter, and google, and LinkedIn.

Over the last couple of weeks my teacher gave us a PLN assignment. For this assignment we had to create a twitter account if we didn't have one. I didn't have one so here is the one I created https://twitter.com/Brown93Elisa . The second thing we had to do for this assignment was find 15 or more educational related people/ organizations to follow. Third, place a link to our twitter page on our wiki. Fourth, monitor our twitter feedback/retweet resources and take a screen shot OF A Twitter chat in which we participated in here's the one I participates in call the kinder chat
. Last but not least reflect in a blog in which I am doing now. This assignment at first was a little difficult because it took me a long time to get use to how twitter works and I'm honestly still not quite there yet. I also found it very hard to find a live twitter chat until someone on twitter reached out to me and helped me in which I really appreciate . I found Twitter to be very useful. It allowed me to follow educational pages that had very useful resources for teachers.  I was also a very nervous beginner but everything worked out with this chat that I joined here's a closer pic of the question.
Thanks for reading this week blog and see you next week bye!!!

                                                      Digital Tattoo

Hello Everyone!

Topic: Digital Tattoo

Last week in class we talked about Digital Tattoo . When my teacher first brought up the word digital tattoo I'll be honest I looked it up and this is what I found

How are you defining YOUR digital identity?

Fingerprint in the shape of an avatar to represent digital identityOur digital identity, or tattoo, is the permanent collection of data about us that is available online.  Each time we post a picture, a blog, a status or a tweet, we are adding to that digital identity.
As more online applications become part of our daily lives, our digital identities become increasingly more detailed. There are over a billion pieces of content added to Facebook every day! More importantly, there is a generation of young kids, with limited life experience, who are sharing every detail of their lives online at great potential risk.
As my teacher went on discussing what a digital tattoo was I understood it to be apart of a person Identity. I think a digital tattoo basically describes how you're coming across to the world through social networks whether it's Facebook, Twitter, old/recent blogs. If you don't understand what I'm saying or want to learn a little more about digital tattoos here's a prezi presentation my teacher showed us in class to further explain http://prezi.com/4w3i-fffwwix/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy&rc=ex0share My professor also put me and my peers into groups of 2 to further expand on the topic. She  gave each group a person to look up and had us find as much information on the person as we can. We then had to make a PowerPoint presentation about the person and turn it in.

The group assignment and class allowed me to see the importance of being cautious of what I out on my social media networks because It can possibly help or hurt you in the future.

Thanks Everyone for reading this weeks blog and I'll talk to you next week

Stages of Technology Integration

Hello Every One !
  Topic: Stages of Technology

Today I learned something new . My teacher gave us and assignment on the stages of technology.https://prezi.com/v92blbssanme/stages-of-technology-integration-acot/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy I learned there are five stages of technology in which people can be categorized as. I didn't quite understand it the first time around but as I went over it a second time I got a better understanding.
Here w e go these are the five stages of technology

Stage One- Entry
Stage two- Adoption
Stage three-Adaptation
Stage four- Appropriation
Stage five-Innovation

Entry Stage- basically describes teachers not being comfortable with technology so they avoid using it. Stage one can be a very frustrating stage for teachers. Adoption Stage-  In the adoption stage teachers may be often excited to prepare and present information but are still learning technology tools. Adaptation Stage-  Teachers use technology with students in this stage. Appropriation Stage-
Is the project based learning activities that are common and students are self directed. teachers at this stage show a lot of confidence and will often seek out opportunities to bring in technology. Innovation Stage-
Teachers has a choice to pick and choose. This is a stage of options. It gives students better options of technology to use.

My Teacher then asked me to think about what stage I may be at professionally and privately. I personally think I would be categorized under stage two honestly because I'm still in the process of learning how to use a lot of technology tools. I was an still am very surprised that there are 5 stages in technology integration that we all go through. I agree with the stages that are listed. I am also willing and open minded to learning more about technology to better myself as a teacher .

Active Learning

Topic: Active Learning

Last week my teacher brought up the topic active learning in class. The first thing that came to my mind was engaging in activities. I partially understood what my Instructor was saying even after the active learning group assignment  we did in class http://popplet.com/app/#/3174338 . So what I did was went home and asked my father what he thought active learning  because he's always one of the people I turn to  when I need a better understanding about something. My Father said when he thinks about the word active learning he thinks about engaging in activities or discussions. I also called one of my coworkers who is my mentor from Ezzard CharlesDaycare http://ezzardcharlesschool.org/ .She said active learning could involve children doing hands on activities, group activities, or discussions. The last thing I did was looked up the definition of active learning and this is the definition  I found athttp://www.bing.com/search?q=active+learning&form=IE10TR&src=IE10TR&pc=MAGWJS

Active learning

Active learning is a model of instruction that focuses the responsibility of learning on learners. It was popularized in the 1990s by its appearance on the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) report (Bonwell & Eison 1991). In this report they discuss a variety of methodologies for promoting "active learning".

After Looking back on the group assignment to make sure I was clear about everything, putting what my father and coworker said together . I honestly did feel a little slow because it actually was very simple an wasn't that difficult to understand after thinking about everything. But I'm happy I finally do have a full understanding about active learning.

I think all teachers should keep active learning in mind when creating lessons because it is a great way to learn students strengths and weaknesses. Active learning encourages participation in class, and is  great way to keep students interested in activities. One example of active learning  could be incorporating small group discussions or group activities similar to what I had to do on last Thursday in class. I learned active learning to basically be a process of learning because most student such as myself learn easier and quicker  through participating in the process of  learning something in class.
